Fences in Orange

We offer and set up wood, vinyl, aluminum, steel, composite, and glass fences. We install in the ground, on slabs and on top of walls.

Fences offer divisions between properties, and give either seclusion or openness contingent upon what is necessary. For example, openness may be needed on account of either a pool or a pleasant view. Sprinklers or pool water and the humidity in the local area lets steel rust and deteriorate, so for openness the best answer is vinyl or aluminum. Steel fencing is regularly called wrought iron, but that is a misnomer given that wrought iron won’t rust, while mild steel unquestionably does. Aluminum fencing has a similar diminutive shape as steel, however vinyl fences will have larger supports or profiles. Either vinyl and aluminum are superior materials around pools given that they do not rot or require painting even when left exposed to lots of water. Darker colors are not offered in vinyl.

For strong fences, vinyl or composites are best given that yet again they do not rot or deteriorate. White is customary for vinyl, however we have an exceptionally nice tan vinyl with a texture making it different from the customary manufactured material.

Another pool fence option is a portable fence similar to the style made by “Baby-loc”. Their fence uses a netted material to keep a child out and requires either fiberglass or aluminum dowels that are placed into fittings correctly placed in a concrete slab. Lastly, there is a special dog guard fence system that activates a shocking apparatus on a dog collar. If the dog tries to cross a concealed fence line fixed by a hidden wire the dog will be prevented by a shock.
Glass fences and rails are a last option, and they have to be custom fit.

Patio Covers in Orange

Pierce Construction & Repair offers and set up patio covers which are either water proof or for shade. For waterproof patio covers, we employ wood, metal and Alumawood. In the case of shade covers, we employ vinyl, wood, or canvas. Framing with wood and shingles is done, but is normally too expensive. Shade patios, when made of wood, need painting which is a huge maintenance problem, so to reduce maintenance, Alumawood or vinyl shade covers are recommended.

Many of the patio covers put together for customers in southern California are intended to be used as shade and consist of lattice (2x2s) set equally on the top. If the shade 2x2s are painted wood, they will need to be repainted in just a couple of years. This is quite difficult, time consuming and pricey. That’s why, Alumawood or vinyl is advised for patio covers. On the other hand, since we get morning dew and some rain, solid water proof covers are also trendy. In the case of a second story deck, the same rule applies in that a water proof lid shelters both the furniture underneath as well as the actual structure itself. Structural protection means a reduction in maintenance and repairs.

Dry-rot is the main component to wood damage in our neck of the woods, not termites. Termites can be killed, but dry-rot is a fungus and it keeps on growing and ruin wood. It needs to be either cut out or removed. Dry-rot will happen if moisture is left to pool in an area which does not dry quickly. This can occur on top of flat planks, but particularly between wood joints. On substructures, we prefer to use chemically treated “Green” timber which resists dry-rot. Every now and then we cover substructure support members with vinyl or roofing paper to shield the supporting wood from water. We especially like to refrain from using decorative moldings or edges that form crevices and spaces for water to get into and damage the wood. Lots of homeowners let dirt to accumulate so that the debris essentially touches reinforcement wood for either fences or patio covers. When water is left to build up at a support base, it almost ensures that the wood support will rot out.

As a different choice, canvas awnings are very appealing and practical for creating protection from the elements. Sunesta carries a variety of types and various colored fabrics. Awnings also come as permanent, or with the option of opening and closing either with a manual crank or with the aid of a motor.
